President Obama, who was recently in Virginia to give a speech to workers at a construction project which was funded by stimulus money, stated that he would explore “each and every avenue” of creating jobs.
Really, Mr. President?
From NASDAQ:
WASHINGTON -(Dow Jones)- Under pressure from some Democrats to adopt more economic stimulus, President Barack Obama said Wednesday that he will explore new ways to create jobs.
“Here’s the bottom line, we’re moving forward on a number of economic fronts,” Obama said at a Virginia construction project funded with money from the $787 billion Recovery Act. “And we’re going to continue to explore each and every avenue that I can think of that will lead to job creation and economic growth.”
At the event, Obama touted the initial stimulus, saying it has helped get the economy “moving in the right direction.”
He didn’t discuss any new economic proposals. Democratic lawmakers, however, have pushed for an extension of a new home buyers tax credit and a new tax break for businesses that add new workers.
Hows about some Green Jobs, Barack? No, not those kind of “Green Jobs". These kind of Green Jobs…
From California NORML:
….Based on experience with the wine industry, the total economic activity generated by legal marijuana could be nearly four times as great as retail sales, around $12 - $18 billion. Amsterdam-style coffeehouses would generate jobs and tourism. If the marijuana industry were just one-third the size of the wine industry, it would generate 50,000 jobs and $1.4 billion in wages, along with additional income and business tax revenues for the state.
An entirely new and innovative industry awaits you, Mr. President. Why is it that, thus far, you continue to scoff at the truth concerning Marijuana, Hemp and the gold mine of wealth to be found there?
From textiles to medications to bio-fuels. It’s sitting right there in front of your face. All the facts are available with a simple Google. The math has been done for you.
There is nothing to fear, in this case, but fear it’s self.

Economic Revenues from Taxation: a $2.7 - $4.5 billion market
The total value of the domestic marijuana market can be estimated on the basis of its current retail price. Depending on quality, retail price of a single gram (one or two joints) ranges around $10 - $15 ($280 - $420/ounce) for domestic bud, or as low as $5-7 for Mexican grass. For comparison, the prevailing price on the quasi-legal Dutch market is $6/gram. At $10/ gram, the total value of California’s domestic marijuana market comes to about $ 4.5 billion per year. In a legal market, prices could be expected to fall. If they fell to current Dutch prices, the retail value of the current market would be $2.7 billion. However, this decrease would be at least partly offset by an increase in consumption. In sum, the total domestic market might reasonably be estimated at $2.7 - $4.5 billion in California.
That’s California. One state.
Add the rest of the nation to that equation and guess what you get, Mr. President….
Beaucoup jobs, mountains of revenue, massive cash infusion (aka stimulus).
The country would become so stimulated we’d probably spewge all over the Western Hemisphere.
According to basic logic and renown authority, Dr. Heather Anne Harder…
Both Presidents Washington and Jefferson grew hemp. Americans were legally bound to grow hemp during Colonial times. The Federal government even subsidized hemp during WWII. In 1807 California produced 125,000 pounds of Hemp. 40% came from Santa Barbara.
Hemp is among the oldest industries on the planet, going back more than 10,000 years to the beginning of pottery. The oldest relic of human industry is a bit of hemp fabric dating back to approximately 8,000 B.C.
Hemp played a major role in the stabilization and economy of our nation for many decades. It wasn’t until it became a threat to the natural resource companies back in the thirties did it first experience a ban on its growth. After all, hemp oil is clean, renewable, cheap, and clean while fossil fuels were limited, expensive and dirty. Those who stood to make a fortune in fossil fuels couldn’t compete. Also contributing to hemp bashing was William Randolph Hearst. Seems he had a huge financial interest in the timber market. It was his newspapers that spear-headed the hemp bashing in order to influence public opinion. Using the Mexican word for hemp, “marijuana,” Hearst turned the public against hemp by playing on their fears and misled the public concerning the nature of hemp/marijuana. Until then people were comfortable with hemp-but this Mexican marijuana was a whole new ball game.
So, Mr. President. You have talked out of both sides of your face on the Legalization issue. But sooner or later you’re going to have to face Liberal voters in another election. Many of us are already disenchanted with some of the things you’ve done (and haven’t done). Do you really think you can afford to lose the Liberal base when you have an energized Right Wing breathing down your neck in 2012?
I promise you that you can’t.
Not only would the industry create an abundance of new opportunities, but imagine how many people will not be fired because they tested positive for Marijuana that they smoked three weeks ago.
The answer is right in front of your face, sir.
How long will you ignore the inevitable?
