Mr. President? Are You Listening Yet?

I’ll keep this brief due to rather large Doobie anxiously awaiting my return….
In spite of what you might think, sir, I really don’t write the shit I write on this blog for my own amusement.
(by the way, I do send email and a link to any public official I write about)
I do it because every single voice for progress is important. No matter how small or obscure or obtuse. Every last voice is crucial.
Right now you have ignored our voices, sir. And the Democratic party has suffered for it. We demanded a Public Option, you scoffed (and lied), we lost New Jersey. Again we demanded a Public Option, again you turned away, we lost Virginia. Today, we still demand it, you still have your back to us, and we are about to lose the most solid Senate seat in Democratic politics.
What exactly is it that you do not understand, sir?
I have told you, and told you, and told you and told you….Now, I must tell you once again.
THE PROGRESSIVE LEFT IS THE STRENGTH OF THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY. IF WE DON’T CARE, YOU DON’T WIN! IF WE GET THE SHAFT, YOU GET THE SHAFT.
Low voter turnout in NJ and VA. What does that mean to you? If we don’t turn out in Massachusetts, Dems lose that one too. Catchin’ on yet?
You and others in the party may not want to admit it, but that doesn’t make it any less true.
My advice to you, sir, is to get that Public Option back in the bill any fucking way you can. Because we, as I have written you so many times, likely will not be there if we don’t get what you promised us concerning Health Reform. Not now, not in 2010, not in ‘12. Perhaps not ever again.
Dismiss these warnings and signs if you will. But understand that you do so at the peril of the future of the Democratic party. Because without the Liberals who carried you to power, you’re nothing. All of you, nothing.
Regards,
Comments, Pingbacks:
The demonstrated fallacies of essentially kissing the asses of their ideological opponents elicits the predictable consequences - AGAIN.
Certain truths of political psychology, such as 'appearances' can often outweigh 'messages', fail to influence democrats to support candidates with a genuine chance of winning political races.
Palin demonstrates over and over again that she is a dingbat. An ignorant dingbat who 'looks good' being a dingbat. And the teabaggers just eat it up. And the democrats talk and ramble, etc. but offer no alternatives to Palin's appearance.
Instead, many democrats sit on their laurels proclaiming 'moral superiority' while their opponents win yet another election here. And then another one there.
Having the just & ethically correct message is certainly beneficial. But having the correct message while losing one political race after another is not much more than an exercise in futility
Earlier, Essex County (New Jersey) democratic chairman Phil Thigpen suggests that Corzine "does not exude charisma." I suppose that Chris Christie had some of that 'charisma' when she won the New Jersey election.
And now, democrats lose another election with national consequences. An athletic-looking new face defeats a frumpy asexual arrogant bitch who walks around like she has a corn cob crammed up her ass - with a sense of pompous entitlement - while she refuses to debate and instead sends her staff on a holiday vacation prior to the election.
In all three elections, the democrats displayed constant bickering, failed to effectively unite behind their candidate, and did practically nothing little to persuade people who had not already made up their mind to support their candidate.
As for the chairman of the democratic political party. Well, he's a joke, huh?
ALL democrats seem to do is to preach to the choir. IT'S NOT ENOUGH.
If they can not get their respective act together, why should so-called independents & the like pay any attention to them?
And the President for whom I voted. He repeats the same ol' platitudes, he makes the same ol' speeches, he pretends to support various ideals while stabbing the liberal base in the back again and again, and he fails to deliver on his political pledges.
Now he wants to maintain Bush's tax cuts for the wealthy, obviously forcing the middle class & the economically disadvantaged to continue to pay more than their fair share.
He reveals that he is a 'hawk' after all (as is Hillary Clinton) and pledges to waste billions & billions MORE in military expenditures while supporting the empire-lovers in their stated goals of controlling the world with hundreds + hundreds of unnecessary military bases scattered around the globe.
The banking industry & 'Wall Street' receive non-ending support while they divide up millions + millions in bonuses.
Unemployment continues to rise at an alarming rate. The disparity in income increases drastically as certain people establish a neo-feudal sociey.
And the President is doing absolutely NOTHING to stop them. Why should he? He's living comfortably.
Meanwhile, pathological traitors threaten armed insurrection. And the President does NOTHING.
Yes I voted for the President. But I'm beginning to suspect that he's a coward. He's afraid of the racists and the other fanatics who repeatedly call him names like communist and muslim and fascist - often in the same slack-jawed drooling breath.
Under Bush, a person carrying a uncomplimentary sign at a rally would be forcibly removed immediately.
Under Obama, wingnuts carry weapons and threaten to kill him and even his family during teabagging parades. And the Presdient is AFRAID to do anything.
He may pay lip service to his liberal base. But it's becoming pretty obvious that it's the policies of the neo-conservatives that he demonstrably supports.
After Jimmy Carter, the neo-conservatives re-wrote history to paint the morally upright President Carter as weak & ineffectual (conveniently not mentioning that they made deals with the Iranians to not release any hostages until AFTER Ray-Gun was President).
This I suspect will be nothing compared to the way that the neo-cons are going to paint Obama.
If they had totally orchestrated the political climate during the last few years to misdirect the population's attention away from Bush's lack of competancy, they could not have done that much better.
The president's cowardice & reluctance to attempt to accomplish anything if it's going to 'offend' somebody is going to be a talking point for wingnuts for the next 15 or 20 years.
Progressives had best enjoy their 'freedom' while they can. Ten years from now, it will probably be illegal to disagree openly with the neo-con aristocracy.
The remaining liberals can then hide in their basements and repeat over and over among themselves how preferable it WAS to have all that moral superiority.
It's almost pathetic.
Obama is either serving another entity, or he's simply that naive.
Some of those Clintonistas he has around him are giving him some bad advice. They're telling him to be "pragmatic" when all he has to be is honest and steady in his convictions.
At this rate he has no chance of winning re-election.
