Tennessee First District Congressional Rep, Phil Roe, seems to have a short memory and an even shorter concept of what the average American elder means to us as a people and a nation…

Ah, those who went before us. They toil, struggle, build, plan, implement….Then they die, and leave the fruits of their labor for us to enjoy.
Indeed, we are nothing without them and their sacrifices. The very least we can do is try to make their latter years as comfortable as possible and at least provide them with the dignity we hope those who come after us will provide for our sorry asses.

From those who went before us we inherit progress. The innovations and ideas of their time. Building blocks upon which we lean and hopefully improve.

All that progress…

No wonder Republicans hate the elderly.

Seventy five years ago Democrats fostered the method and mechanisms by which we would show our profound appreciation to our aging benefactors. It’s called Social Security, and our elders live better, longer and more fulfilled lives because of it.
The ultimate example of unadulterated Socialism. We, as a nation, using our hard earned money to lift up and say thank you to our predecessors.

Now, Republican lawmakers want to destroy the only lifeline our elderly, our parents and grandparents, have to see them through their golden years to that time of dying that awaits us all.
Rep. Paul Ryan - R of Wisconsin, all Republicans including our sitting Congressman Rep. Phil Roe, and some Blue Dog Democrats are embracing the disastrous course of privatization. Ryan’s “Roadmap to Hell” is the absolute destruction of our social services.

Privatizing Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid…Completely doing away with The Children’s Health Insurance Program.
All to save a buck they would immediately waste on something far less important.

What this amounts to is simple. We all saw it with our own eyes. Corporate Wall Street whores getting bailed out with our money because of their grotesque incompetence…And now Republicans want to hand the controls of our social services to the exact same bunch of fools.
Social Security works, it’s benefit modest in most cases and therefor needs to be strengthened, not exposed to cuts.

GOP Assault on the Elderly:

Does Congressman Phil Roe Support the Destruction of Social Security and Medicare?

Congressional Representative Paul Ryan of Wisconsin, the ranking Republican on the House budget committee, has taken the liberty to draw up some sort of “road map for America’s future” that is intended to eliminate the federal debt by the year 2063.
Trouble is, this “road map” calls for dramatic, damaging cuts in critical services such as Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security. The only life lines most of our elderly and disabled citizens have.
Many in the first district are afraid their current representative, Phil Roe, will support these dramatic cuts. His rhetoric in recent months indicates he’s concerned more about the politics of greed than he is about the people he represents.

It is expected that many Representatives in the pocket of greedy Wall Street gamblers will actively support Mr. Ryan’s attack on our elderly citizens, but Ryan’s “road map” is so radical and potentially damaging that even hard core conservatives like Newt Gingrich will not endorse it.

The Ryan Road Map to Oblivion would raise taxes for most middle-income families. It would privatize a very large portion of Social Security and would bring an end to Medicare-as-we-know-it and most of Medicaid. The Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) would be totally vanquished. The “road map” would replace these critical programs with a voucher system. The value of which would surely erode as time goes by, subsequently causing the insurance purchased to cover less and less in the long term.

Such astonishingly callous and unfeeling attacks on some of our most frail citizens are inexcusable and simply cannot be tolerated in a civilized society. We ask Dr. Roe to clarify his position, publicly, on this very dangerous and derogatory attempt to place wealth before health.

Democratic First District candidate Mike Clark asks, “Where do you stand, Congressman Roe? Do you or do you not support Ryan’s “road map?”

Clark added that Democrats are no more in favor of privatizing Social Security or vouchers for health care now than during the disastrous Bush years, when the Republicans - like Ryan and Roe - ran the economy into the ditch with the help of their Wall Street cronies. “We stand for bringing the bacon - in services, and assistance - home to the people of North East Tennessee, not serving it to Wall Street on a silver platter.”

All major polls, Google any one of them, show that Americans overwhelmingly oppose any kind of cuts to these vital services. Such cuts are a direct assault on our loved ones, regardless of politic.

Your mom’s benefits in the hands of Wall Street? You gonna stand still for that? I’m not. I love my mom, peoples. Anyone who tries to hurt her is my mortal enemy.

Vote Democratic in November 2010. Do it for your country, do it for your mom and dad.
